Feeling the feeling and healing

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3, WEB)

Do you experience great happiness like fireworks in the sky, like your chest would be just about to burst with joy? Or sadness as if the sea would be pulling you to its depths? Well, these might be a little “over narrated” reactions, but I do think that as an artist we experience human feelings a little bit differently, maybe. I think, and this is based on own observations of my artist friends and colleagues, we just observe life more through our senses. It’s like we have a kind of “kaleidoscope” through which we see a lot more levels in everyday life than someone else might see, you agree?

I guess it’s safe to say that art is made through certain kinds of feelings and emotions. (Would be interesting to see an exhibition with visual art that has been made totally without feelings, it’s impossible, isn’t it?! 😀 ) The artist is bringing something visible, touchable, audible for others to experience. Artist is giving something from within him- or herself, that has been hidden before. Creating is a lifeline to creative person, but there are so many of us who haven’t taken this free and oh-so-wonderful-way-of-healing in to action! I want to dearly encourage you to take the step into something new, something you haven’t done before!

For me, this painting was part of a long healing process that God took me into. As you can see, I’ve painted myself without any recognizable features. This might add a certain kind of… mystery touch to the painting yea, and I’m happy for that, but let me tell you a BIG secret: *I don’t know how to paint human face* so I just choose not to do that! 😀 You see, it’s not about how “well” you can paint or how “talented” you are, it’s about daring to try and find new way to be and learn! Let me add a text I wrote elsewhere in this blog:

The “You Can’t” is so very sadly true lie with many of us. WHO SAYS you can’t? WHO DEFINES what is when one can and when one can’t? NO ONE. That is absolutely the right of no one. If you want to draw: DRAW!!!

Come out from the desert!

Come out from the desert and lean on your Lover

Come out from the desert and lean on your Lover. (Aquarelle on paper.)

As a believer you know, that sometimes God takes us to experience the desert. It is first and foremost, what we think, a spiritual desert. There we feel that we’re all alone, God doesn’t speak to us anymore. It can last for years, as harsh as it sounds, and get so severe lack of the Living Water, that one could even think about quitting the whole thing with Jesus. “If this is all You offer, I’m done, thank you!”. It could also be, that the enemy has convinced you, that the desert walk is your destiny and that’s all you’re ever gonna get from God. IT IS NOT TRUE!!!

But the thing is, that if we really want to grow in faith, it happens in and through the time spent in the desert. Of course we can be like a piece of lard in a freezer, so to speak, you know what I mean? You just “hang in there” and give up, as long as you still get out some day. But to grow in faith is also about striving when you are experiencing the desert. We are good enough for God through Jesus Christ, that’s for sure, but if you want to be Spiritually victorious here on earth, you sometimes just need to make the decision to keep your head above the water level. God has given us free will, and it applies also to how we decide to go through this experience. Do I really want to compromise my rightful place in Heaven, do I want to come through this time just barely alive, or do I choose to worship and relate with Him no matter what? Please, choose the “no matter what”, you can make it through Him who strengthens you!

This piece was painted during a worship session in July. I felt I was just by the door to come out from a very long time in a desert, and I saw the picture of me leaning on Jesus as He was walking with me the last miles. (He’s been with me, and you, all the time, but I felt as if He would’ve made himself visible to me only a little time before I got out.) So my dear, what ever you go through and what ever you do, don’t give up, as your oasis is already visible!

Take time to worship

Natunen gave me the honour and stood as the live model for the Lion of Judah! 😀

It is a wise investment into your life, to spend time with the Holy Spirit. There usually is no short cut into knowing Him more, but to actually take the time for Him. Put Him the priority of your life. What ever blessing you think you lack, all your needs will be fulfilled once you “seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 WEB)

It is also encouraged to use the means of your God-given creative gifts at home, if you are too shy to express it publicly. If you’d love to paint (but have always “known” you can’t) buy some paints and brushes (or paint with an old dishcloth for that matter, point being that you start using the gift you have!) If you can keep a brush between your fingers, you can paint. If you can’t keep the brush between your fingers, you can put it into your mouth or between your toes. The same freedom is highly urged when asking from Father God how you could express your love towards Him (if you don’t already know), and maybe even share the Gospel through your creativity!

Here’s a series of photos of my home-lion Natunen, as he was so kind to introduce himself as a live model! 😉 😀
